S.T.A.R.R. Team - Search Tactics And Rescue/Recovery
The S.T.A.R.R. Team Fallen Heroes

Chipper
Chipper
Chipper was a chocolate lab that was owned and handled by our Director Stephen Pearrow. Chipper was rescued from a dog shelter in the midlands of South Carolina. Jamie Gunter, one of the members of the command staff for the S.T.A.R.R. team found Chipper and made the call to Stephen about him. Chipper learned the trade fast and conducted many searches in his short life. He was trained and certified in HRD (Human Remains Detection).

Chipper and Stephen along with other members of the team completed a two week tour in New Orleans, LA after Hurricane Katrina struck the Lower Ninth Ward. Chipper was credited in locating four missing persons in the flooded area. They were deceased, but was able to relieve the suffering of their family members not knowing where they were or what may have happened to them. What the most amazing part to this story is that the S.T.A.R.R. Team went to NOLA nine months after the storm. They were part of a group of teams throughout the United States that were there for body recovery only. Chipper completed his task with honors.

Chipper passed away from cancer shortly after arriving home from NOLA. He will be missed and can never be replaced.
Kelsi
Kelsi was a German Sheppard owned and handled by Bryan Miller. Kelsi joined the team already trained in HRD (Human Remains Detection). The day that Bryan came to one of our training events in hopes that he and Kelsi had what it takes to become a member of the S.T.A.R.R. Team and they were immediately welcomed. Kelsi was the first K-9 in S.T.A.R.R. history that was tested and certified as a cadaver dog on the first day she was brought to us.

Kelsi was one of the most amazing dogs in that she never quit even with her elevated age. She has assisted our efforts in searching for the lost and the missing in a flawless manner.

Kelsi passed away on the 4th of July 2009 after a long battle with cancer. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

Allie
Allie
Allie was owned and handle by Jamie Gunter. Allie assisted in locating a mentally challenged man that walked off from a care facility in the midlands of South Carolina. The requesting agency called for our assistance. When the S.T.A.R.R. Team arrived the requesting agency worked hard together and Allie tracked the young man in good health.

Allie will always be remembered as S.T.A.R.R.'s first. She made a history not many dogs will be able to match. She saved a life before giving her own.
Annie
Annie was a Doberman owned by assistant director Don Hale. She was trained in HRD (human remains detection). Annie was Don Hale's first K9, and they developed a special bond during their time working together. She unexpectedly passed on in 2012 doing what she loved to do best: training with Don.

Annie was an irreplaceable part of the S.T.A.R.R. Team family and she will be missed.
